I fell in love with my shadow, thought it wasn’t intentional. When I first entered this brave new world, you wrapped me in your arms, and I saw that our shadows combined into a single shadow which loomed large on the beach.
As the years passed, my shadow grew next to yours. We held hands and walked side-by-side. Talking. Laughing. My love for my shadow also grew, as it was the only thing in this world besides you who understood me, and you guided me.
But Annie. Mother. You are in the autumn of your own game of life. Soon I will be the one carrying you. Keeping you safe. Just like you did for me.
And there will come a time where the only thing I will remember you by will be the thought of you, free from pain and sickness, as you play hide and seek among the stars, keeping watch over me.
And I’ll walk alone, a single shadow on the beach keeping me company.
