Who is Jon Bellion
Jon Bellion is an American signer, producer, and songwriter from Dix Hills, New York.
Origins
Bellion’s first interactions with music was in 8th grade when Jon’s brother brought home a Triton keyboard, and evne though he was told not to touc hit he woudl sneak into his brother’s bedroom to make beats which he would record on a tape player.
In high school, Jon becameboth a prolific basketball player as well as a musician. He actually recieved an offer to play collegiate basketball, but instead elected to focus on his music fulltime, enrolling at Five Towns College. He would only attend for a year before dropping out at 19 to focus on songwriting professionally.
He worked under Kara DioGuardi at Warner Bros learning song writing, and in 2011 he would release his first mixtape “Scattered Thoughts Vol. 1”, but he would explode in popularity when he co-wrote the Rhianna/Eminem smash hit “The Monster” which would win a Grammy Award.
Early mixtapes
Bellion would continue to release mixtapes, including Translations Through Speakers in 2013, and would feature on Logic’s mixtape Young Sinatra: Welcome to Forever. Unfortunately I don’t have any copies of this early music on my computer, so the first note of Bellion we’re gonna observe is from his second 2013 project “The Separation”. Kingdom Come
Later Music, Debut Album, and Beef with Record Execs
In 2016 Bellion would release his debut album, The Human Condition whic would peak at number 5 on the Billboard 200, driven by the double-platinum song “All Time Low”. However, I don’t think that’s the best song on the record, instead I would direct you to the song 80’s Films off of that Album. 80’s Films
However, Bellion would begin beefing wiht his label as well as Live Nation for taking advantage of him and other artists, prioritizing profits over artist financial security or happiness. I can’t go into all the details here, but he did an interview with George Janko where he talked about the music industry, which I think is a must listen.
He would end up refusing to release music for 7 years while he fought against his contract, but would go on to become one of hte most prolific songwriters in modern times, writing for Lizzo, katy Perry, Justin Bieber, Camila Cabello, Jung Kook, Jonas Brothers, Jason Derullo, Selena Gomez, Miley Cyrus, Maroon 5, Five Seconds of Summer, Ben Platt.
In 2018 he would follow up with Glory Sound Prep, his second album which peaked at number 15. Blu
Independent Artist and
In 2025 he would buy his way out of his contract, and begin releaseing music again under his own label, Beautiful Mind Records. His third Album Father Figure dropped in 2025, and he would release Two Car Garage in 2026 with Swae Lee and FANDOM.
His music in this period is heavily shaped by his personal growth and become a father, which can be seen in songs such as “Father Figure”, “My Boy”, and “Why”.
