Rules
- No use of LLMs, image generation, etc
- Coding assistants are turned off (hell, uninstall them to prove a point)
- Even if an automation exists, learn to write the fix yourself
- Video title: “I went a week with using AI to prove that it’s stupid”
- Environmental damage
- Make sure to discuss how I mainly use LLMs for either coding or to do quick research/clarification
- Does AI affect the quality of research?
- How AI is already so integrated into our lives, through Android/Windows/Google Search (Google is going AI-Native, whatever the fuck that means)
- “Keep exploring. Keep building. Keep creating. Keep loving.”
“Objectives”:
- Code without AI
Thoughts going into it
- I think the most difficult part will be how I use LLMs as a study aid to reexplain concepts to me
- I’m interested to see how much not using AI affects me
Sunday
Since I had spent most of my day either reviewing lecture notes or at work, I didn’t encounter many situations/scenarios where I found myself having even wanting to use AI.
Monday
- New job training
- Apparently they’re trying to encourage an AI tool for look up reciepes at work
- I refused and used the old fashioned method, but this just seems like an unnecessary use of LLMs
- Today is also when the Pope released the MAGNIFICA HUMANITAS
I also did a lot of programming today, specifically in trying to learn a new programming language (Go). Now typically, over the last year this is where I would be using Gemini the most because I would be asking it questions about syntax. However, this one forced me to deal with the documentation of not only Go, but teh framework I was using for my project (Cobra).
What first jumped out to me was how much more annoying it was to search for information at first glance due to havbing to comb through StackOverflow, Reddit, and documentation to find what I was looking for. But what also jumped out to me was how much more fun I was geninely having programming and figuring it out. I was feeling a little like I was back to solving puzzles.
Does AI really take that much enjoyment out of learning?
Coding is fun agian, cuz it feels like i’m learning and increasing my knowledge
Tuesday
Finally go around to finishing my little zettkelasten coding project, and it works better than expected. I did finally find a good reseource for go documentation which played massively to my advantage.
Also had a homework assignment due so had to do that without AI. note that i don’t use AI to cheat, but to help me learn but i did always have a concern that the use of AI would come back to bite me in the ass as i would subconsciously be offloading learning to the AI. (use the MIT study)
Wednesday
Finished programming the zettlekasten and recording a video for it. I’ve started noticing that life seems to be slowing down, and I don’t have stress in my life. Is this placebo or perhaps is the constant pressure to “increase my productivity” by using AI/LLMs becoming more of a myth than an actual reality?
Also data center for AI was just cancelled in my town
IT’s honestly so nice just watching videos/reading about note taking and learning how to use zettlekasten, instead of that psychological para-social realtionship you have with a chatbot when you ask it a question.
Thursday
Ran into a lot of issues with coding, and spent about two hours wrirting a custom function for my project. Thing is though, I actually enjoyed the process. It didn’t feel like I was wasting time. I was actually learning this entire time instead.
Friday
Saturday
Definitely had some problems with my homework, as there was multiple concepts I didn’t understand in the material, but I chose to persever and be honest with the professor that I didn’t understand the mather rather than use AI to get through it without grasping it.
I also spent about five to six hours over the last two days working on rewriting part of my note taking program that I’ve been building, and it was quite difficult/frusturating as I was having to really thin harda to find a solution which worked, but I was able to get something which met the needs that I wanted in the program as well as provide the functionality I wanted.
Conclusion
What aboute DeepWiki? Does AI have use cases?
